Weekend O’ Fun - Day 4: Dodgers Game
May 5, 2008
The weekend concluded this evening (hey… when you’re unemployed you can have a weekend as long as you want) with a Dodgers - Mets game. Dodgers won 5 - 0! Pretty exciting as we were sitting next to a group of obnoxious drunks, a Brit and his wife, and a 2 year-old at his first major league game. It was a brisk evening (56 degrees) but with the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers move to LA from Brooklyn, the air was full of excitement (and beer).
I have a difficult time watching baseball on TV but love going to games. There’s just something about live baseball… hot dogs (which I only eat at baseball games), peanuts, the vendors, the 7th inning stretch. It’s such an American activity and I can’t help but relish the sweatiness and screaming. I’m not a Dodgers fan and certainly not a Mets supporter, but baseball is good and an excellent ending to my Weekend ‘O Fun.

Whoo Hoo! Looks like fun. I can’t stand to watch baseball on TV either but love going to actual games. Though I prefer Little League actually. It always cracks me up seeing these little kids concentrate so hard on a game they don’t understand.

Cool ending to a great weekend. I love going to games too. We used to go see the Royals a lot when we lived near KC.

Looks like a great evening for baseball - and I don’t know about you but I am hoping that these endless weekends end pretty soon!

Bluesuit: the 2 year-old from last night was concentrating pretty hard. He’d tap me every minute or so and point something out happening on the field.
Lynne: When you come out, maybe we go catch a Dodgers game!
Pamajama: You’re much better for my ego than the horror of a roommate. Thank you for the compliments.
Five Husbands: I’ve decided to start volunteering with some organizations, partly to network and partly to keep myself from going insane. I can’t believe just how many educated people I know who are unemployed! Good luck on your end!

Pammy and Five Husbands and anyone else out there who is “between jobs”…hang tough. Your time will come. Keep plugging away and don’t get discouraged. Like someone once said to me, it’s not like you’re looking for a half dozen or a dozen jobs…just one. The right one. Your time will come. Just don’t let up. I was out for a solid year before I got back into the game. Sometimes it takes that long for the right opportunity to become available. As for baseball, certainly better enjoyed in person, which is why attendance at baseball games continues to climb, minor and major leagues alike.

Natalie: Don’t be jealous… join in! Move to LA and think of all the fun we’ll have!!!
Sports: Great thoughts — thank you.

Baseball is one of the things I enjoy about Houston… the Astros baseball games. There’s nothin’ like the smell of hotdogs (which I only eat at the games, too) and popcorn and beer… which for some reason smells good in combo… and the excitement in the air. I’ve been to pro basekball and football, too, but I wasn’t impressed. There’s just something about America’s Pastime (though it is hard for me to watch on tv, too… too slow).
