A Little Catch Up
December 4, 2008
The past few weeks have been a little on the stressful side, to say the least. My apartment now smells like a litter box because while the landlord fixed the sink and garbage disposal, he didn’t bother drying the carpet. I’ve had a fan blowing on it for several days but it’s not working and as much as I adore and believe in Yankee candles, the sewer stench is in no way eclipsed by the aroma of Clean Cotton. SIGH
In addition to the apartment drama, I got a little aggressive in the gym on Saturday while doing squats. I distinctly remember going down and on the way up (during an extra set, mind you) a sharp pain shot up my back and I’m pretty sure I made a high-pitched squeaking sound and then teared up a little. I’ve been on muscle relaxers since Sunday and have been walking slower than my 80 year-old friend, Vivianne. Oh, and I haven’t been to the gym all week because I still can’t stand up straight. Man, I feel old.
And finally, I made myself a wee bit sick with stress over a memo I received earlier in the week. The good news is two-fold: 1) I lost about 7 lbs. since last Wednesday; and 2) I am still and will continue to be employed. Yeah on both accounts!

Congrats on the good memo news – I’ve been wondering…
Yes. I’ve just been a mess. I cried so much yesterday that my right eye was swollen when I got up this morning. I’m happy but emotionally exhausted.

It all evens out…isn’t there a Seinfeld episode about this?
Your back hurts, but you lost 7 lbs….
Your carpets stink, but you kept your job…
It all balances. I know it doesn’t make the bad things better, but at least it didn’t all roll to the bad side…
Good call. I needed to be kicked in the butt a bit. It’s always good to see the positive side of things, even when it’s hard to do.

What to suggest? I don’t know the tenancy laws in California, but, in UK, I’d have the Public Health people in. To hell with putting the landlord’s back up; I’d be looking for another place, anyway.
Been looking like crazy. I should finalize something soon. PHEW!
As to the back pain … again, what can I say? Been there … in fact, only today, I was able to wear lace-up shoes for the first time since mid-November.
I love my heating pad. I’m thinking I should start doing pilates and stop doing such strenuous exercises… at least for a while. That might help in the back pain department.

This is so lame, but I’ve always been jealous that you lose weight when you’re stressed.
I love that about you. When are you coming for a visit? Miss you.

I’m with Natalie; I gain weight when I’m stressed, thus the extra 6 pounds I put on thanks to Ike. Still haven’t lost 3 of it. Anyhoo… super happy for you, but I’d like to see you in less back pain.

Glad things are working out. You sound like mom when you get stressed, always end up sick. You both should curb that prontisimo.
Ya, ya… I know. But come on… 7 lbs is 7 lbs!!!
